Phitsanulok Thailand – Best Guesthouses and Hotels

There is more than decent choice of accommodation options in Phitsanulok for budget and mid-range travellers. Those looking for luxury may have hard times with only few hotels in the city catering for this category.

Budget

Located just south of the temples and a few hundred meters north of the train station, Karma Home Hostel (Lang Wat Mai Apaiyaram 26-64) is the perfect place for a solo backpacker. The chilled atmosphere and the owner Mike are what makes this place really worth it, and you’ll immediately feel welcomed and a part of their big family. The location is great, within walking distance from virtually everything. The rooftop terrace is where you’ll meet fellow travellers chilling in hammocks at sunset with a cold beer in hand. There is also a meditation zone to practice yoga skills. A bunk bed in a mix dormitory will come for THB200 (THB250 air-con). The shared bathrooms are kept clean all the time.

For people on a real shoestring budget there is an option to rent a tent with a mattress, sleeping bag and pillow on the rooftop, and it all comes for THB140. Free Wi-Fi is available throughout the whole property.

If you’re looking for a cheap private no-frills room, check out one of the hotels around the train station. Asia Hotel (176/1 Aka Thotsarot Road) is a good option if you want a private bathroom (THB200 with a fan), while if the price is your only concern London Guesthouse (21/22 Soi 1 Putthabucha Road) has the most affordable rooms in town, with rates starting from THB100 (with shared bathroom and cold water).

Mid-range

P1 House (99/15 - 19 Phraongdam Rd.) is one of those places that you would never come across if you didn’t know about it, and even if you walk in front of it, you probably wouldn’t even consider to stop by. Located one km east of the historical sites on a busy road, the anonymous ‘’hostel’’ sign on the front door is anything but inviting, but when you enter and go past the reception you’ll find a nice wooden house with a traditional garden in the backyard, spacious and modern air-con rooms with flat-screen TV, fridges, desks, new bathrooms with tile floors and hot shower. When travelling by car from Bangkok up to the north we often break our journey staying a night at P1.

A lively restaurant and pub offer good Thai dishes and it’s a nice place to hang out for a bit after dinner. Ask for a room facing the backyard if street noise can bother your sleep, though we have never had any problems with that. A standard room comes at THB580, while THB100 more will give you access to a bigger and brighter one. Breakfast is included into your room rate and includes eggs and coffee.

If you cross the river from the train station, The Gran Riverside Hotel (59 Praroung Road) is a huge and elegant hotel in a fantastic location overlooking the River Nan. Even if in our opinion it’s lacking character, the value you can get for the money is exceptional with a big double room with classic design and spacious bathroom with a bath and a shower coming for THB1700. The property features a lot of facilities, from a spa and massage centre, to a high-end restaurant with piano bar and karaoke. All the major attractions can be reached via a 20 minutes’ walk.

Top end

If looking for something more upmarket, Yodia Heritage Hotel (89/1 Buttabucha Rd) is probably the best hotel in Phitsanulok at the moment. Located on the eastern bank of the river, just few blocks north from the temples, it offers spacious and modern rooms with all the comforts you would expect from a hotel of this category. The atmosphere is quiet and relaxing thanks to a small size of the property and its locations in a tranquil neighbourhood. There are two swimming pools for the guests. Room rates start from THB3000 in low season.
