Nong Khai Hotels, Guesthouses and Resorts
Nong Khai has a wealth of accommodation options available, and for the most part, they cater to budget minded travellers. Guesthouses are filled with personality, friendliness, and charm, but rooms tend to be basic and far from luxurious. Plan to choose between single rooms with fans and shared bathrooms, or air conditioned rooms with wifi, but beyond that, you won’t find too many options near the city centre.
The easiest place to find accommodation is along the Mekong River. Here, you’ll come across markets, restaurants, and many tourist attractions, so naturally, hotels and guesthouses have ended up in the area as well. While you can certainly find rooms elsewhere throughout Nong Khai, for convenience, this location is our top choice.
Budget
Deserving of special note is Mut Mee Guesthouse, a widely popular spot not only for a place to sleep, but also for its well known restaurant, massage options, and serene setting. On top of all that, this guesthouse also offers yoga, meditation classes, and bicycles to rent; think of it as a one stop shop.
Rooms at Mut Mee cost (at most) THB650 for a double with air conditioning and private bathroom. While the mosquitos can be a bit of a nuisance, they provide nets around the beds, which is a necessity. Single rooms with fans and shared bathroom are also available for about THB200. Another budget option near the Tha Sadet Market is E-San Guesthouse, an unmistakably old wooden building that’s been surprisingly well maintained. Rooms are offered for as low as THB250 up to THB500. For cheaper rooms, you’ll get a fan and shared bathroom. On the higher end, expect well working air conditioning, a private bathroom, and TV in the room. One great perk to E-San is its distance from the bus station. If you don’t want to have to worry about overpriced tuk tuks, you can easily make the walk on foot. (38 Soi Si Kun Mueang, Meechai Rd)
Mid-range
For slightly more luxury than the average guesthouse, try the Pantawee Hotel. While it doesn’t look like much from the outside, you will enjoy more common amenities here than elsewhere - think more along the lines of a budget western hotel. The cheapest rooms are about THB650, and are suitable for a single person, whereas the most expensive rooms cost THB1500 and will fit your entire family.
Regardless of the size, you’ll find air conditioning, wifi, TV, private bathrooms, and refrigerators in each room. Don’t expect a ton of comfort, but do plan for the rooms and amenities to suit most needs. One perk is the spa and pool area of the hotel, plus the restaurant and tour booking options. Top end
If you just can’t stand the idea of budget accommodation, you can travel a bit outside of Nong Khai’s centre for a more upscale experience. You’ll likely have to grab a tuk-tuk to get into town, but your chosen hotel will easily be able to assist.
Our favourite option for taking a step outside of the city is Vana Wellness Resort. You’ll pay about THB4500 for their best room, but if you don’t mind spending the extra cash, the value is wonderful. You’ll get all the regular amenities like air conditioning, wifi, and TV, but you’ll also have a mini bar, jacuzzi, and direct pool access outside the door.
While this hotel isn’t cantered right in the middle of Nong Khai’s action, there isn’t all that much action to be had in the first place, so the extra few minutes it takes to get into town might be well worth it. If you’re looking for a temporary escape, Vana Wellness is a wonderful option. (222/2 Donsawan - Wat That Rd)
