Nakhon Ratchasima Hotels, Guesthouses and Resorts
Unlike other popular destinations in Thailand, the city of Nakhon Ratchasima, or Khorat, as it is widely referred to, does not have a specific area with a big concentration of guesthouses and hotels; they’re rather scattered everywhere throughout the city. The only more or less densely covered area is Ya Mo and its proximity: there you’ll more than likely find enough options to choose from without reservation.
Budget
Scattered around the old town area there are several aged and not particularly appealing hotels offering double rooms with a fan and private bathroom (cold water only) for less than THB200. None of these places is listed on any of the booking sites and if you’re on a thigh budget the best thing you can do is walk around Suranaree or Chompon Rd and have a look at the rooms by yourself. Don’t expect too much luxury, but they’re generally clean and the staff are quite accommodating and welcoming. The location is perfect and you won’t need to spend any extra money for transportation to explore the city.
Just as an example you might want to check Sri Sura Hotel (on Suranaree rd) or Sri Chompon Hotel (on Chompon rd), both of them just few minutes away from Ya Mo.
The long running Ban Sansabai (335-337 Suranaree Rd) is slightly pricier than the previous ones and it has been backpackers’ favourite for decades for a good reason. They have three different types of rooms but all of them have comfortable beds, the nice and clean tile floor and private bathrooms. At the top floor there are few cheaper rooms (THB300) without air-con and only cold-water shower while at the 2nd and 3rd floor the standard rooms (THB450) are a bit bigger and have air-con and hot shower. A few larger rooms are available at THB550. Breakfast is not included but it comes for THB65 (toasts and jam, eggs and coffee). The staff speak a good English and are really helpful with any information you might need. As a plus you’re just 300 m away from the Bus Terminal 1 where almost every songthaew will stop.
As an alternative if Sansabai is fully booked Fair Thai Hotel (35 Pho Klang Rd) is the closest hotel to Ya Mo (less than a 100 m). The rooms are not as nice as Sansabai’s ones but still a good value for the money and the location. Fan rooms come for THB270 and air-con ones for THB450 and all of them have a TV. The small attached restaurant serves good and cheap basic Thai food.
mid-Range
A recent addition to Khorat’s accommodation selection, Urban Bamboo Hostel (111 Soi Vatchrasarid) is a modern boutique hostel that offers a lot more than what you would normally expect from your regular hostel. First of all there are no dormitories and bunk beds but only double or family rooms all of which are wonderfully decorated in a different and unique style. No need to say that every room comes with an air-con, flat screen TV, Wi-Fi and a spacious and well-designed private toilette. A nice rooftop common area is ideal to chill out at sunset with a cold beer while meeting new people and waiting for dinner. A good breakfast is included into the rate which start at THB750 for a standard room.
Urban Bamboo is halfway between Ya Mo and Thanon Chira train station. Since the growing popularity of this place and the limited number of rooms we would recommend you to book in advance.
Top End
For a bit of luxury not far from the city centre our heart goes to V-One Hotel (666/6 Chang Pheuak Rd), a modern boutique hotel with a big choice of lovely decorated rooms and all the facilities you would expect from a 4 star hotel. Rates start at THB1800 for the standard room and go up to THB8000 for the suite. Two smaller buildings of the same property offer slightly inferior but still good rooms (THB1200).
V-One Hotel is located a couple of km north of Ya Mo close to the main road of Mittraphap.
