Delhi India – Best Places to Stay in All Price Ranges

Delhi is an incredible city. Being the capital of India since ancient times, its streets are rich with the heritage of many dynasties. And what is even more astonishing is the fact that while development has happened at a rapid pace here, its historical value has not lessened over time.

The location of Delhi is such that it is a convenient starting point for many who want to explore the wonders of Himachal, Uttarakhand or Rajasthan. A huge number of travellers often use Delhi as a base for travelling to these places and for touring Delhi. That is the reason why there are many options for accommodations catering to budget travellers, elite travellers and those with families as well.

Budget

There was a time when we used to travel with very little money. Those carefree days of our youth gave us some wonderful memories and we were very happy when we recently learnt that many more options for budget stays have opened in Delhi.

One of those options is the Bed and Chai which is present in GK1, one of the posh colonies of Delhi. The facility is operated by two French women who fell in love with India and decided to help others do the same through their charming little guest house. Perhaps why a stay in Bed and Chai is always so comfortable is because they themselves know what a traveller’s needs are. It is wonderful to sip a glass of tea listening to them narrate their travel stories. The place is comfortable and has all modern facilities like internet, housekeeping, baggage storage, roof top gardens and a common area to interact with guests. The prices start form INR 850 for a bed and go up to INR 3600 for a double room. Bed and Chai is a very good option, especially if you are looking to explore Delhi as the location is extremely good and the staff is very polite.

Another good option for backpackers is the Madpackers hostel. Located in Panchsheel park, it is conveniently located close to all the young hubs in Delhi. The place is ideal for the backpackers. It is safe, comfortable and vibrant to say the least. Its front desk is manned 24x7, has a fully functional kitchen and is a good place to research the various walks and tours in Delhi. A rooftop lounge and a cosy common room are very good places to hang out and share your experiences with other travellers. The rates are pretty reasonable and start from INR 800 for a dormitory bed and INR 2800 for a double room.

Zostel is an amazing option for young backpackers because it is situated very close to the railway station. Located in Pahargunj, it has spacious rooms and is a favourite among travellers to Delhi. Zostel is actually a chain with properties in many locations across India and they have extremely good amenities. It is a hostel with very efficient staff and they put a lot of emphasis on cleanliness. Prices start at INR 600 for an 8 bed dormitory and go up to INR 2500 for a room.

In fact, the Pahargunj area is full of budget accommodations which start from as low as INR 300 per night. Places like Hotel Delhi Empire, White Klove and Nirmal Mahal are decent options for those travelling on a budget.

Another good option is the Master Guest house located in New Rajender Nagar, just 4 kms away from Connaught Place and the Railway Station. It is located very close to the Ridge, Delhi’s major green belt and we often find ourselves in the company of birds like the Mynah, Parakeet and even peacocks when we stay here. It offers homemade food for its patriots and has an open air roof garden and offer all modern amenities and they also give you tips on travelling in Delhi. The prices are slightly on the higher side with rooms starting at INR 2500 and upwards.

Bloomrooms is another place in Delhi which offers good accommodation options. It features a sunny yellow and white theme and is very close to India Gate, Humayun’s Tomb and Lodhi Gardens. The place is very comfortable and the 24 hour reception ensures that you get services throughout the night as well. Apart from the standard amenities like Wifi, parking and others, laundry services are also provided. And there is an added bonus if you are a non-smoker as the property is smoke free. The prices for a room start from INR 3800.

Another very friendly place with a home like ambience is Maya’s Nest in Vasant Kunj. It is located pretty close to the airport and is truly a home away from home. The place gives you the privacy you need with all modern facilities and is a very good place especially for female solo travellers. We recommend this place highly as they actually live up to the Sanskrit saying of “Atithi Devo Bhava” which translates to guests are like Gods. Maya’s Nest makes you feel welcome but there are only 3 rooms available here, so we advise you to book in advance. The prices start from INR 3500 depending on the type of room you need.

There are also many options in the Karol Bagh area of Delhi which is situated conveniently close to the railway station and has many avenues for food and shopping. One of them, Wood Castle, is something we highly recommend because they have European styled rooms with contemporary features. The ambience is very good and the food is excellent. What is more is that the staff understands whether you are on business or a holiday and offers you the services that you would require most. The rooms are spacious and their commitment to cleanliness is commendable. A double room costs around INR 2500 per night for a deluxe room.

Service apartments

Service apartments are a great way to stay during holidays as it offers great amenities with all the comforts of a home. The Olive Service apartment in Green Park is one we recommend highly because of its location. It is situated bang in the middle of South Delhi where most of the fun activities take place. With private living and dining areas, LCD televisions, fully loaded kitchen and cook and personal attendants on call, the Olive Service Apartment is a great place to explore Delhi. The prices start from INR 3500 and they have many properties across Delhi which you can choose from.

Bed and Breakfast

Bed and Breakfast places are also becoming increasingly popular in and around Delhi. We chanced upon this gem of a place called Haveli in Hauz khas which is conveniently located around some of the famous monuments of Delhi. It is a heritage mansion and is situated in a very quiet and peaceful locality. The hosts are an author and photographer and they are more than happy to share their stories. Haveli was a very memorable stay for us and we would love to visit it again sometime. The prices start from INR 4000 for single occupancies.

Top end

Being a corporate hub as well as a tourist destination, Delhi has many high end accommodation options also, especially the areas close to the airport. The Leela Ambience Gurugram hotel is one such award winning hotel which provides you with all the modern amenities. Along with spacious and luxurious rooms, Leela offers banquet halls and some great food as well in its restaurants. You can even indulge yourselves in the spa and have a nice drink at the Rubicon Bar and Cigar lounge. Prices start from INR 12000 per night.

Another 5 star accommodation option in Delhi is the Grand Intercontinental which is located in the heart of the city. With rich décor, superb cuisines and impeccable service, the place will really spoil you. You can choose from a number of staying options like designer rooms, non-smoking rooms and Club Inter-Continental rooms. The prices are upwards of INR 12000.

These are just some of the accommodation options that we prefer in Delhi but while there are many more options here, we can vouch for these places where we know you will have a good time.
