Attractions in India Close Temporarily

In the wake of the Coronavirus some of India's most famous attractions, including the Taj Mahal, one of the Seven Wonders of the World, were shut down for visitors temporarily.

The decision taken by the tourism ministry is aimed at curbing the spread of the virus with high-profile attractions drawing thousands of people a day seen as a means of accelerating the transmission.

Also closed till March 31, 2020 will be all ASI monuments and museums, according to the tweet of the Union Tourism Minister Prahlad Singh Patel.

The Red Fort, Humayun’s Tomb and some other popular tourist sites in Delhi as well as shopping malls, cinemas and swimming pools have announced they close for public entry, too.

Earlier India cancelled all tourist visas and e-visas banning travellers arriving from certain countries including Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Czechia, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland (Rep.), Italy, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Turkey or United Kingdom from entering the country. Other measures to take the spread of the virus under control include  a health declaration form and medical screening upon arrival as well as a compulsory quarantine for minimum 14 days for travellers from a number of countries (the list changes constantly – please check IATA travel centre for updates).
