Phetchaburi Hotels, Guesthouses and Resorts

We were really impressed with a choice of accommodation offered in Phetchaburi. All the options listed below offer a decent value for money, and 2N Guesthouse is probably one of the best places we’ve ever stayed in Thailand in this price range.

Budget

Located right across the entrance of the Phetchaburi Historical Park, Ferngully Hostel (143 Ratchawithi Rd) is the best dormitory style accommodation available in town. Even if it’s not in the city centre, a 15-minute walk will bring you to this dig with clean and modern dorms with comfortable beds, air-con, large and spotless shared toilettes with hot shower and a nice rooftop communal area where it’s easy to meet your fellow travellers. As the property sits so close to Khao Wang, you can be sure that some of the monkeys living in the park will come and pay a visit making your evening more entertaining. The staff speak basic English and are always ready to provide any information about the transportation options for your onward journey you may need. They offer bicycles for rent what is quite handy to travel between the hostel and the city centre. A bunk bed in a mixed or female dormitory is THB300.

Right on the river and close to the night market Rabieng Rimnam (1 Chisa-In Rd) offers inexpensive and basic single and double rooms with shared bathroom in an old teak house with a wonderful view over the Phetchaburi River. The rooms definitely would need a renovation, but they’re one of the cheapest option in town in a great location with a fantastic atmosphere and a terrific restaurant (see the food section). You can rent bicycle and motorbike, and the two owners can help you organize your trip wherever you’re planning to go in the province; one of them in fact was a tour guide and speaks a really good English, and the other is a jungle guide who still organizes trekking tours to Kaeng Krachan National Park. A single room with a fan and shared bathroom comes for THB150.

For slightly better rooms you can check their neighbour JJ Home (2 Chisa-In rd). They also have cheap and simple fan rooms with shared bathroom in the old wooden house along with more expensive private air-con rooms in the new concrete building. Prices start at THB200.

Mid-Range

In the same area as Rabieng, but enjoying a bit quieter location on a side street White Monkey Guesthouse (78/7, Khlong Krachaeng Rd) offers a stylish modern alternative for those travellers searching for a bit more comfort at an affordable price. The 12 rooms are all nicely decorated in a contemporary style featuring beds with big comfortable mattresses, tile floor, some extra pieces of furniture and TV screen. The cheaper rooms (THB600 with air-con) rely on large and clean shared bathrooms with hot shower. The bigger rooms with private bathrooms come for THB900. A free and simple breakfast (coffee and toast) is included into the room rates.

If you don’t mind being a bit far from the action Sweet Dreams Guest House (65/8 Moo2, T.Ban Kum) is a better alternative in the same range of price. Located a couple of km north of the city centre on the left side of the river, Sweet Dreams offer modern, spacious and well-furnished double rooms with air-con and private bathroom for THB750. Breakfast is included and exceeds expectations with a lot of fruit, sweets, toast, jam, cornflakes, coffee and tea. They also offer a free use of bicycles.

We absolutely enjoyed our stay in 2N Guesthouse which sits almost opposite Sweet Dreams. The owners – two sisters Nit and Nissa – are so welcoming and accommodating, you will never want to leave their place. The rooms are spacious, flawlessly clean and have little perks like kettles or bottle openers which make your stay even more comfortable. Their breakfast competes with the previous variant and also features a small Thai dessert – the sisters change the dessert every morning. There are bicycles for rent, small balconies and a common area in a nice garden. All for THB580. Recommended.

Top End

If you’re looking for something more upmarket, Swiss Palazzo (37/4 Moo 9 Khiri Rattaya Road) is your best bet in town. Located west of the night market, all the rooms are designed to vaguely recall a mountain chalet with wooden decoration and furniture. The result is nice, and worth the money. Prices start at THB1900. The attached restaurant is widely known for being one of the best in town and probably the only one serving decent western food (at western prices though).
