The Thai government this week endorsed a railway project that will eventually connect Bangkok and a Gulf of Thailand port to Kunming in China. Government spokesperson Sansern Kaewkamnerd said the project in Thailand would link Nong Khai on the border with Laos to Nakhon Ratchasima, Kaeng Khoi, Bangkok and Map Ta Phut Port.
Thailand’s astronomy institute has announced the annual Leonid meteor shower phenomenon will brighten up the sky over Thailand tonight. The National Astronomical Research Institute of Thailand’s Dr Sarun Posayachinda says the optimum period to view the Leonids will be from 03:00 onwards.

A landmark bridge close to the town of Mae Hong Son has reopened following a concerted rebuilding programme. Villagers and Thai government officials joined hands in the effort to restore the bridge, Su Tong Pae, after it collapsed last week.
A bamboo bridge in Mae Hong Son with an estimated 500 people on it gave way early on Wednesday morning. Emergency services officers say 10 of the merit-makers were injured and one person had to be airlifted to Chiang Mai to receive treatment for serious head injuries.
