A north-south succession of the Cardamom Mountains, Elephant Mountains drop abruptly to the sea near the town of Kampot.
The major part of the highland plateaus and summits of the Damrei Mountains belongs to the Phnom Bokor National Park designated as an ASEAN heritage park.
The park boasts a wide biodiversity featuring a great variety of plant species, some rare orchids and endemic plants, too. The historic Bokor Hill Station, an abandoned French settlement on top of Phnom Bokor is also part of the park.
Yet until recently Elephant Mountain have remained in major part out of radar of travellers due to poor connectivity. The recently built by the Ministry of Water Resources and Meteorology 1.2-km dam road that runs around the foot of the mountain opened way to toutists.
In order to develop tourism potential of the area, the Kampot provincial Department of Tourism together with the local authorities are studying the project of establishing a natural resort in the Damrei Mountain area.
Currently there are no accommodation options near the mountain so visiting Damrei Mountain is possible as a day trip only. Closest accommodation options are located in Kampot, and so are food venues.
