Nepal to Develop Mountain Biking Tourism

Nepal is going to develop cycling touirsm. While hiking and trekking in the Himalayas have been the main draw for visitors for decades, bicycle is working its way to the mountainous terrains of the Roof of the World.

Adventurous mountain bikers are more and more attracted to Nepal’s hills and mountains thanks to opening of new trails and roads that allow to reach many areas that used to be totally inaccessible before.

Recently, the Enduro World Series has got a new addition to its well established biking events like Yak Attack, YakRu, Pokhara IV, and the Grand Himalayan Enduro – the KaliX Mountain Biking Festival will be held along the Kaligandaki gorge, the deepest gorge in the world, in 2020. Red Bull TV and National Geographic have both talked about Nepal's potential as a premier adventure biking destination.

With an increasing number of travellers supporting the idea of substantial tourism, biking becomes more and more attractive. Nepal tourism authorities have already launched a dedicated cycling tourims website nepalbycycle.com to provide bikers with information on trails and events.

Strangely, Nepal has never been the destination of choice for moutain bikers but it's probably going to change soon. Besides Mustang, which is already popular among mountain bikers, the Annapurna Circuit is now accessible for cycling tourism, too, and Manaslu may become a mountain biking destination in the coming decade.
