Leaves Turn Red in Chongqing

December is the best month to admire autumn colours in high-altitude areas in Wushan County, Chongqing, China. The 13th edition of Wushan International Red Leaves Festival has already arrived to Chongqing, a major city of the southwest China.

Wushan boasts almost 200 varieties of trees with red leaves. The total area that annually turns flaming orange-red during this period is about 660 square kilometers.

To help visitors get most of their experience, Wushan County works out and offers hiking routes to showcase the best autumn pictures. This year, 13 routes for tourists are in focus to allow visitors to enjoy red leaves in the very heart of the scenic spot. The county organizes convenient transportation to the trail heads and installs supporting facilities.

Besides walking tours the program of the festival features an array of activities from live concerts and Tug-of-war competition to sporting events.

Wushan County is home to the famous Three Gorges Dam, hence a visit to the festival can be combined with a picturesque boat tour along the Yangtze River. Other popular activities include riding Changjiang River Cableway over the Yangtze River and visiting hot springs that abound in the area. Caiyuanba Escalator, the longest single escalator in Asia, is also located in Chongqing, next to Chongqing Railway Station & Lianglukou Metro Station.
