Merlin Entertainments is a British-based entertainments company, one of the world-largest. It operates Legoland theme parks, Madame Tussauds waxwork museums, and Dungeons attractions. Merlin already has 13 attractions in China including Legoland Discovery Centers, Madame Tussauds, Sea Life Centers, Dungeons, Peppa Pig World of Play and Little Big City.
Shanghai's Legoland theme park will be located in the Jinshan District in southwest Shanghai. The project is supported by Lego brand owner, Kirkbi firm from Denmark, and the Shanghai Jinshan government. Besides the Lego themed attractions, the new park will feature a 250-room themed hotel.
According to the study carried out by the two companies, the chosen location of the new park has a catchment area of 55 million people within two hours of travel time. The whole region that includes Shanghai, Jiangsu, Zhejiang and Anhui is home to about 220 million people. It already has one huge theme park – Shanghai Disneyland, which opened in June 2016.
The estimated cost of the project is USD625 million. The schedule for the project is still to be determined, but most likely the project will not open before 2023.
Shanghai to Get One of World Largest Legoland Resorts

Shanghai will probably get one of the largest Legoland resorts in the world in the course of 4 or 5 years. At least the U.K.’s Merlin Entertainments and China Media Capital made a respective agreement to build a Legoland Resort near Shanghai.
