First Club Med Resort to Open in Sabah, Malaysia

Club Med, a global hospitality company that wholly owns or operates over seventy all-inclusive resort villages in holiday locations around the world, is eyeing Kuala Penyu in Sabah, Malaysia for their next premium resort.

The new resort will be located in Kuala Penyu, some 90-minutes drive from Kota Kinabalu city. The area boasts beautiful beaches and still remains out of radar of mass tourism.

The resort will most probably be named 'Club Med Borneo Kota Kinabalu' and is going to complement Club Med’s 5 Trident Exclusive Collection, which is the company’s premium range. For Club Med, it is going to be the first BREEAM-certified and sustainably-built beach resort in the Asia-Pacific.

With the design inspired by traditional Bornean culture and motifs, the resort built of sustainably-sourced natural materials will seamlessly blend with the surrounding rainforest. It will feature 400 rooms, including 40 luxury suites.

In a press release regarding the upcoming construction of the resort, Henri Giscard d’Estaing, president of Club Med, said: “The Club Med spirit has always been to create new resorts that seamlessly blend into naturally beautiful locations and become discoverable bucket list destinations in their own right. Opening in Kuala Penyu allows us to showcase Sabah’s beautiful surroundings in a relatively undiscovered part of the world.”
