The well established popular tourist destinations are still bringing the bulk of the revenue in terms of volume, but the figures released by the Ministry of Tourism and Sports show that several new destinations including Phang Nga, Prachuap Khiri Khan and Rayong are gaining momentum, too.
From January to June 2019, Songkhla grew most in terms of revenue adding 10.44% to the provincial performance. Bangkok remain the main tourism revenue generating region with Phuket and Chonburi being the next most important centres in terms of absolute figures. Krabi, Surat Thani, Chiang Mai, Songkhla, Phang Nga, Prachuap Khiri Khan and Rayong are all in the Big-10. Chiang Mai and Bangkok are the only two regions that grew less than 5%, all the remaining 8 regions showing a solid growth between 5.31% (Chonburi) and 10.44% (Songkhla).
Si Sa Ket, Ubon Ratchathani and Nonthaburi, which are traditionally out of tourists radars, have been performing well, too.
Total revenue from tourism in 2019 is estimated at 3.20 trillion Baht, +4.3% over 2018. Domestic tourism contunues to play the major role in achieving TAT's tourism revenue targets.
