Vietnam Promotes Its Tourist Destinations via Social Media

In January–June 2019, almost 10 million overseas travellers visited Vietnam, a 7.9 percent increase compared to 2018. While results are impressive, the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism (VNAT) wants the number of tourists to continue growing.

In major part, VNAT attributes the rise of number of tourists to successful promotional efforts that play a crucial role in boosting the development of tourism industry in the country.

Yet experts at the tourist conference in Hanoi organized by VNAT believe more creative and effective solutions are needed to develop Vietnam's tourism industry. Following the global trend of social networks, market professionals are called to switch from organising costly roadshows onto Facebook, Google and Key Opinion Leaders (KOLs). Promoting tourism through KOLs' emotional and trustworthy posts yields better results and encourages more tourists to visit.

VNAT is widely uses Tik Tok for promotion purposes and till now has created over 15,000 short videos on tourism in Vietnam. In August, a series of short clips on the northern Ninh Binh province will be released. An official site for tourism in Vietnam is waiting for launch.

Vietnam's Travel Advisory Board (TAB) believes that improving the e-visa policy as well as focusing on quality not only qiantity of tourists are two key factors to contribute to success of the sector. Theme tourism is another trend that will be given more attention, too.
