MAH's Sabah–Labuan Chapter Reports Sabah Safe for Visiting

The report was done after the recent kidnappings of fishermen in the state's east coast, away from tourist areas. The incident happened during curfew hours while fishermen were in the sea without a permit. 

The safety of tourists is MAH's utmost concern and the representatives of the association assure travellers in keeping the situation under control. The island resorts are safeguarded by the Eastern Sabah Security Command (Esscom) that is responsible for 1,400 km of the east coast of Sabah from Kudat to Tawau.

Sandakan is widely considered to be the gateway to Borneo, as a small but friendly city close to beautiful wildlife and nature it’s a must visit destination if you’re travelling in Malaysia. There are many reasons to visit, from amazing tropical rainforests to some excellent snorkelling and dive locations, as well as some lovely islands located just off the coast. Whilst the area is used to receiving tourists due to its fantastic location for sightseeing in Borneo, it still feels very rustic compared to other resort destinations. 

Tawau, also in Borneo, is a useful link through to Malaysia from both The Philippines and Indonesia, and also boasts some great diving for those who are visiting the region for that reason. It’s located in the East of Sabah and is home to Tawau Hills Park, where you can find the tallest rainforest tree, as well as Crocker Range – a beautiful mountain range which includes the famous Kinabalu Mountain.
