Conveniently located to serve as a gateway to Luzon, Ilocos welcomed a number of cruise ships this year, including M/V Diamond Glory, Costa Atlantica Cruise and Superstar Virgo the latter along having made 18 calls to the Ilocos seaport.
The Department of Tourism of the Philippines feel optimistic about developing cruise industry in Ilocos and have recently conducted a spesial seminar on cruise tourism at the Playa Tropical Beach Resort in Currimao town. The seminar aimed at optimizing the benefits of cruise ship visits in the Ilocos province by training host communities on how to become effective customer service providers.They also prepared training programs for local tour operators to help them reach excellence in creating positive experiences for cruising guests.
Located in the northwestern section of Luzon, Ilocos region borders the Cordillera, the Cagayan Valley and the Central Luzon with the South China Sea washing its western shores. Some of the most popular attractions of the region include the Hundred Islands National Park, in the Lingayen Gulf in Pangasinan; and a historic Vigan City with its cobbled streets and colonial houses.
