Train trips in Myanmar get double popularity

Owing to changes in the policy of the Myanmar Government toward to democracy tourists’ interest in travelling through the country has significantly increased.


According to Ministry of Rail Transportation, owing to changes in the policy of the Myanmar Government toward to democracy tourists’ interest in travelling through the country has significantly increased. Particularly noticeable is the rise of foreigners’ attention to travel by train.


From January to August last year Myanmar Railways served just 12,000 tourists compared to 21,524 foreigners traveled by train at the same period this year. The basic starting-point for train trips is Yangon Central Railway Station, the most popular destinations are Mandalay, Mawlamyaing and Bago.
