Lotus Blooming Season Is On in Dihua Ancient Town

Dihua Ancient Town, located in Danfeng County of Shangluo City, Shaanxi province, welcomed the first visitoris of this year's Lotus Tourism Festival with the opening ceremony held on July, 15th. 

The festival will last till August, 31st, allowing visitors enjoy a particular type of lotus known as 'dihua' in full bloom. As Dihua is also the hometown of a famous Chinese writer Jia Ping'ao, a series of activities planned for the festival will be connected with paying tribute to the writer who used Dihua Town as an inspiration for some of his novels. There will be a 'Find the Most Beautiful Dihua' photography contest; folk music performances; and a huge light and sound 'Old Memories of Dihua Town' show telling the story of the ancient town. 

In Chinese culture, lotus flower is considered one of the most important flowers, a symbol of purity and perfection. It is connected with longitivity and honour.

Dihua can be reached via G40 route down southeast from Xian. The distance between the two is under 170 km or about two hours by car. To get to Xian, hop onto a flight from Beijing which will bring you there in about two hours. Travelling by train will take up no less than 12 hours covering in total 1100 km.
