The train and ferry trip to Koh Samui

The Gulf of Thailand island of Koh Samui is one of the jewels of the nation’s tourism crown. Beautiful golden beaches, delicious cuisine, scintillating nightlife and a whole raft of activities including scuba-diving odysseys are the chief draws that pull in countless numbers of visitors every year.

Although there are direct flights from Bangkok to Koh Samui, the combined train-ferry combination gives tourists a glimpse of the golden age of travel of yesteryear. 12GO ASIA sells combo-tickets for the journey from Bangkok as well as other major locations on the southern Thai peninsula.

Travellers have the option of seats or sleeping berths in fan or air-conditioned carriages for the train journey as far as Suratthani. This genre of ticket includes the cost of transfers to local ferry ports. 12GO ASIA’s ferry options include the award-winning Lomprayah fleet.

If travelling from Bangkok, the best option is to take an overnight sleeper train. This arrives in Suratthani early in the morning. Taking one of the faster speedboat ferries means that passengers arrive at their Samui resort or guest house in time for a late breakfast or early lunch.
