Prior to the unveiling of its spiral-horned antelope species, zoo director Sumate Kamolnorranathsaid said they were a male and a female and were four years and two-and-a-half years old respectively. The duo were raised at Nakhon Ratchasima Zoo. The two zoos come under the umbrella of the Thai Zoological Park Organisation.
To mark the arrival of the nyalas, the zoo was offering free admission yesterday to anybody who could prove they were born on 1 May. Nyalas feature unusual thin white stripes on their coats. Although they are referred to as spiral-horned only the males of the species are endowed with these macho accoutrements.

Keepers at Bangkok’s Dusit Zoo yesterday introduced two new residents to the general public. The two additions to the zoo’s 5,000-strong collection of creatures are African nyalas and their public debut was timed to coincide with Thailand’s National Labour Day.
