Koh Samui tourism hotspots to get medical treatment centres

A hospital on the southern Thai island of Koh Samui has announced plans to establish emergency response centres in key locations. The director of Koh Samui Hospital says highly-trained personnel will be on hand at all the new centres to deal with any medical emergencies.

Theerasak Wiriyanon noted that professionals would be in a better position to handle any victims of accidents at sea or on diving excursions in the unlikely event of an emergency. The director did not specifically state where the centres would be established but an insider claimed likely locations would be near Nathon, Maenam and Bangrak piers and the resorts of Chaweng and Lamai.

Although it is not a big island, Koh Samui is home to several international standard hospitals including its namesake. The quality of care at a relatively low price when compared to similar hospitals in Western nations has made these facilities popular with medical tourists.

As Theerasak Wiriyanon says the Emergency Medical Act of 2008 has led to vast improvements in the standard of care and treatment in-patients and out-patients can reasonably expect. Samui’s famous spa treatments also play a significant role in getting patients back on their feet after any surgery or other treatment.
