The line, which is shown on maps as the Sukhumvit Line, currently runs between Mor Chit and Bearing. It is being extended at both ends. From Mor Chit two sections will extend it to Saphan Mai and then on to Khu Khot. The Bearing extension will travel as far as Samut Prakan.
After the official signing yesterday, Mass Rapid Transit Authority (MRTA) boss Yodyuth Boonyathikarn said work on the THB60 billion project was two thirds finished and both extensions would open to commuters and tourists in 2017. Governor Sukhumbhand Paribatra signed the contract on behalf of the BMA.
He noted that the agreement was a landmark one for authorities in Thailand. He said it was logical for the MRTA to build transport infrastructure and for the city administration to then operate it.
Bangkok council will operate extended Sukhumvit Skytrain

Thailand’s transport ministry has given the green light for the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) to run new Skytrain services when they launch next year. The memorandum of understanding will see the council assume control of the twin extensions of the elevated Green Line system.
