Pattaya gets ready for green St Patrick parade

The organisers of the St Patrick’s Day parade in Pattaya are putting the finishing touches to preparations for the 2016 edition. Although St Patrick is the patron saint of Ireland, Pattaya’s cosmopolitan expat community, tourists and locals habitually join in the fun as it is a good excuse to enjoy the craic.

The sixth annual parade will raise funds for the Thai seaside town’s Father Ray charity foundation. The activities begin at 15:30 on Thursday with cultural shows on the forecourt of the Alcazar Cabaret Theatre.

The parade itself is due to set off at 16:30 from the theatre and head off along Second Road. After that, the retinue will head down Beach Road Soi 4 to Beach Road. The parade will then go along Beach Road before swinging left at the arch marking the gate to Walking Street.

The final stretch will see marchers go back along Second Road to the Alcazar. The organisers say there will be a lucky draw and additional shows awaiting at the theatre. Pubs such as Rosie O’Grady’s and Mulligan’s are usually busy in the evening as people descend on them to quench their thirsts with pints of Guinness.

Pattaya occupies a beautiful setting at the top end of the Gulf of Thailand. The town is less than two hours by road from Bangkok and 12GO ASIA is the most convenient source for tickets to travel.
