Phuket to host powerboat racing spectacular

Thailand’s tourism authority has announced that Phuket will be the venue for an exciting powerboat race tourney later this year. The Ministry of Tourism and Sports’ local director said the agency is collaborating with Singapore in staging the watersports spectacular.

Santi Pawai said planning was still in the early stages, but it was likely to be a three-day event starting on Friday 4 November. The director continued by saying a team from Singapore was due over the weekend and the decision would then be made as to whether Laguna or Karon was the best venue for a series of Formula 1 powerboat races.

Phuket is off the coast of southwest Thailand and linked to the mainland by road-bridge. It is fast becoming the venue of choice for watersports and boating event organisers. The latest one was the inaugural Thailand Yacht Show last month.

Ao Po Grand Marina was the venue for this event. The organisers say more than 5,000 people visited the marina during the course of the four-day event. Phuket is also one of Thailand’s most beloved destinations for tourists. Getting to Phuket is no hassle when you choose 12GO ASIA as your travel partner.
