Commenting on the closure, Dreamland’s operations manager Ung Kunvibol said staff were sorry to see a location where everybody came for fun meet an untimely end. He said the Cambodian government needed to persuade other investors to launch a new theme park as the national capital desperately needed this genre of attraction.
Mr Kunvibol stated that every fixture in the park would be auctioned off so that investors would be able to recoup some of their initial outlay. He noted that everything from tables and chairs to the giant big wheel would go under the hammer.
Long Dimanche is a spokesperson for Phnom Penh Council and he stated that while nobody had submitted a proposal to build a new theme park it would certainly be welcome. He also confirmed that the Dreamland site owners, Thai Boon Roong Company, had made an application to build on the land, but the proposal was still under consideration.

Cambodia’s biggest amusement park closed yesterday after opening to great fanfare just five years ago. KNN Cambodia ploughed US$10 million into developing Phnom Penh’s Dreamland, but now says its lease has expired and the site’s owners have already earmarked the plot for a 133-storey skyscraper.
