Bangkok launches prototype electric bus service from Morchit Station

On Friday, Bangkok Municipality’s transport division inaugurated a prototype electric bus service. The three-month-long test runs will see the 35-seat bus ply a route between the city’s Morchit Bus Terminal and Don Muang Airport.

The nation’s assistant-transport minister, Omsin Chiwaphruek, led dignitaries attending the ceremony for the inaugural journey of Bus Number A1. He told reporters that the trials were designed to test the capabilities of the electric vehicle in live situations.

The deputy-minister continued by saying that the trials were set to conclude on 25 May. After that, the plan is for the Bangkok Mass Transit Authority to lease 20 more buses for use on other key routes in the city.

The vehicle being used for the trials is on loan from Thai trading company Loxley PLC. The vehicle is wheelchair-friendly and complies with current regulations governing access for disabled people. Fares for the approximately 15km long journey are THB30.

Morchit Station serves intercity buses operating primarily to the north and northeastern regions of Thailand. 12GO ASIA is the optimum source for tickets for buses on these routes as well as ones to all the other major cities and holiday resorts in the nation.
