Vientiane schedules debut marathons for early March

The Lao Athletic Federation is in the process of organising a debut marathon that will take place in the national capital of Vientiane. The federation says the event will take place on 5 March 2015 and will feature three different categories with runners divided into age groups.

The categories are a 21km-long half-marathon, a 10.5km quarter-marathon and a fun run that is 5kms in length. The latter is open to runners of all ages while the minimum age for the half-marathon is 16 years old and for the quarter is 12. The age categories are under 30 and then 30s, 40s, 50s and over 60s.

The Lao Athletic Federation’s deputy-president is Phimpha Siphoxay and he said competitors would follow courses around Vientiane that began and ended at the square in front of That Luang Temple. He continued by saying entry fees would be donated to Village Focus International for its young females empowerment initiative.

Entry fees for foreign nationals are US$40, US$30 and US$10 for the half, quarter and fun runs respectively. Fees for Lao citizens are payable in kip and are LAK120,000, LAK80,000 and LAK35,000 in the same order.
