Mai Phai is an island in the same national park and six tourists on a day excursion to it were stranded as the sea was too choppy for their long-tail boat to return to Krabi. Park rangers stated that they had provided the Argentine and French tourists with shelter and food for the night.
Maritime authorities in the Andaman Sea region which includes Krabi and Phuket have advised the skippers of small boats not to set sail unless it is absolutely necessary. They say the rough seas will continue until late today and possibly tomorrow.
On the opposite Gulf of Thailand shoreline, waves battering beaches along the coast has led to local authorities putting up red flags prohibiting swimming. In Songkhla, the council says winds are strong enough at present to uproot pine trees and blow the roofs of buildings at the beaches of Samila and Chalathat.

Strong winds and waves have been causing problems for tourists in Thailand’s far south. Waves estimated at three-metres high swamped a long-tail boat with six Chinese nationals on it yesterday in the Andaman Sea coast’s Noparat Thara-Phi Phi National Park.
