The three-cable system traverses 6,282 metres on its journey up Mt Fansipan. The ascent gradient is 1,410 meters. The length and ascent are both world records and a representative of Guinness World Records was on hand at the official launch ceremony on Tuesday to hand over certificates attesting to this.
The cable-car odyssey begins in Muong Hoa Valley in the country’s northern town of Sapa. The system’s developers, Sun Group, say it now brings what is known as the Roof of Indochina within the reach of one and all.
Sun Group says the system has been built with state-of-the-art safety technology and is resistant to extreme weather conditions. Depending on weight, each of the cars on the system has room for around 30 passengers. Running at standard capacity this gives a passenger throughput of 2,000 per hour.
