Koh Chang Island ready to stage cultural extravaganza

Authorities on the eastern Thai island of Koh Chang are preparing to launch a Thai culture festival. The venue for the Sea, Sand and Song Festival is the island’s Sai Khao Beach. The fest will run for three days between 5 and 7 February 2016.

The Trat Province division of the Tourism Authority of Thailand and Trat Provincial Hall are collaborating on the project. A spokesperson said that live concerts would be held on the beach and there would be a collection of stalls selling souvenirs, snacks and drinks.

Seafood is a perennial feature at this ilk of festival in Thailand. Visitors will be offered the chance of sampling fresh-from-the-sea squid, king prawns, crab and mussels garnished with delicious local sauces and ingredients.

The organisers say the souvenir stalls will sell One Tambon One Product, aka OTOP, items such as traditional Lanna clothes, bags, wooden artefacts and dried food. Sea, Sand and Song 2016 has been timed to coincide with the second Trat Sailing Festival.

Koh Chang is one of Thailand’s most popular island destinations for international tourists. It is across from Laem Ngop on the mainland and the ferry trip between the two takes about 30 minutes. Although getting to Koh Chang involves taking a bus and a ferry, 12GO ASIA simplifies the process with its handy combined tickets.
