Pattaya police ordered to crack down on visa violators

During a flying visit to Pattaya, a senior Thai immigration director urged police in the resort to crack down on visa violators. Deputy Commissioner Chachuwan dropped in to the police headquarters in Jomtien on Saturday and gave the assembled officers a pep talk.

He told officers they needed to find foreign tourists who had overstayed their visas and permits to stay. He noted that an integral part of this process would be to target guesthouses and resorts who were either tardy or did not report any foreigners staying on their premises. Accommodation owners and operators in Thailand are supposed to submit copies of registration forms to immigration offices within 24 hours of guests’ arrivals.

Major-general Chachuwan was taken on a guided tour of the Immigration Bureau’s offices. During the tour, he offered advice on enhancements and stated that the facility needed to operate to protocols in force at other immigration offices nationwide. As he left, the major-general said he would be returning to check whether the correct procedures were in force.
