A wheel on the final bogey of the five-car suburban train slipped off the rails and slammed down on the track’s sleepers close to Rajaorot Temple. Although passengers aboard the train received a nasty jolt, a SRT spokesperson said nobody had complained of being injured in the incident.
The spokesperson also noted that no trains would be able to pass until the derailed carriage had been shifted off the tracks. Service was restored later in the afternoon. SRT says it is investigating the cause of its fourth derailment in the past month.
A goods train bound for the northern city of Chiang Mai came off the tracks just last week. It was carrying oil which spilled all over the tracks. The clean-up operation meant the main north-south rail route was blocked for more than 24 hours.
