Children’s Day festivities causes delays near Don Muang Airport

Don Muang Airport has issued a warning saying departing passengers need to allow extra time to get here. The statement says the reason for traffic holdups is that the Royal Thai Air Force is staging Children’s Day events at the adjoining Sixth Wing’s airstrip and base.

The statement continued by saying passengers should try to allow an extra two hours to get to the airport. It added that although Thailand’s national Children’s Day is tomorrow, the Air Force is rehearsing its shows today and these will cause delays too.

The events will also affect inbound passengers at scheduled show times today and tomorrow. Aircraft will not be able to land for up to 50-minute periods beginning at 08:15, 09:50, 11:20, 12:40 and 14:20. The statement noted that airlines have been informed and are adjusting their operations accordingly.

Don Muang is Bangkok’s second airport and a hub for budget airlines including Thai AirAsia and Nok Air. It is across the road from Don Muang Railway Station and 20 minutes by bus or taxi from Morchit Bus Station, the departure point for buses to the north and northeastern regions of Thailand.
