Annual Chiang Mai music fest a must for jazz fans

The annual Chiang Mai Jazz Festival is scheduled to take place over the forthcoming Christmas weekend. The northern Thai city’s Promenada Resort Mall is the venue for the fifth extravaganza in the series.

The entertainment begins at 17:30 on both the 26 and 27 December and features a line-up comprising top Thai and international jazz musicians. Chiang Mai’s very own Jazz All Stars plus Pod Moderndog and Neung Jakkawal and the Super Band are among the Thai acts.

Top international artists include Scandinavia’s Mads Mathias and Jonathan Fritzen. Although the festival’s focus is jazz, different genres include Latin, salsa and jazz-rock. One of the principal festival sponsors is AirAsia and it is marketing it under the slogan Dance the Night Away.

Promenada Resort Mall is a few kilometres from downtown Chiang Mai, but there are plenty of red songthaews and tuktuks available for the trip. Tickets for the Chiang Mai Jazz Festival are available online from Thai Ticket Major and tickets for travel to Chiang Mai from 12GO ASIA.
