As temperatures are continuing to drop during this year’s annual cool season, the ground frost is expected to be an early morning sight until at least the New Year. Meteorologists recorded temperatures of just above 0°C in the environs of the 2,565-meter-high peak of Inthanon Mountain over the weekend.
The mountain national park is one of Northern Thailand’s perennially popular tourism destinations. The chance of seeing frost in a tropical nation plus clear winter skies that offer amazing sunrises are major draws for Thai tourists at this time of year. Campsites and bungalow accommodation give visitors the option of staying overnight and getting up early to view these natural phenomena.
Doi Inthanon is also one of the recommended destinations to view tonight’s Geminid meteor showers. The meteors are expected to brighten up the night shy from about 20:30 onwards.

Ground frost provided a rare sight for people visiting the national park containing Thailand’s highest mountain late last week. Doi Inthanon National Park’s chief ranger, Pornthep Charoensuebsakul, said frost blanketed flowers and grass close to the radar station at the peak on Thursday morning.
