The clip warns tourists that wearing clothes which reveal too much of their bodies contravenes the regulations of religious temples and other structures. Likewise, taking selfies with saffron-robed monks is another taboo as they are revered religious disciples.
The commercial continues by telling visitors they should not touch carvings of monks or religious statues. Sitting on fragile masonry is another no-no and so is dropping litter indiscriminately. Visitors are also asked to refrain from smoking and giving sweets or money to children.
At present, privately-owned company Apsara is responsible for Angkor Wat and produced the video. The firm’s deputy-director, Sok Sangvar, noted that the regulations were needed to safeguard the sanctity of the temples and their preservation for posterity.
