TripAdvisor TripIndex shows drop in cost of Southeast Asian sojourns

A half-yearly assessment of the cost of holidays in Asia has revealed a significant drop in costs for Thailand and its fellow Southeast Asian nations. TripAdvisor’s TripIndex research shows that a trio of top Thai tourism hotspots are in the top 10 of destinations providing the best value for money in Asia.

For its TripIndex evaluations, TripAdvisor factors in all the key costs of a seven-night holiday including return air fares and hotel rates. The current assessment is for the six-month period to 30 April, 2016 and says many Southeast Asian holiday locations are up to a third cheaper than they were at this time last year.

TripAdvisor director Brooke Ferencsik says Far Eastern hotels are always good value for money and holidays in the region are cheaper this year because the price of flight tickets has dropped. He added that the weather in the region is clement during northern winters and is an extra incentive for Americans to book Asian sojourns.

The current TripIndex ratings place the Indonesian capital of Jakarta at the top of the table of destinations giving the best value for money. Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City came second and third respectively and were followed by the northern Thai city of Chiang Mai.

The capital of Thailand, Bangkok, came in seventh in the affordability rankings and the Phuket resort of Kathu scraped in at number 10. 12GO ASIA offers convenience and cheap prices when booking bus or train tickets to Chiang Mai, Bangkok and Phuket as well as other locations in the region.
