New Bangkok Skytrain line ready for trials

The Thai Transport Ministry says trial runs on Bangkok’s new Skytrain line should begin in the very near future. The minister for transport addressed reporters at a ceremony to officially launch one of the terminus stations of the Skytrain’s Purple Line on Wednesday.

The trials are scheduled to take place until next March and the minister noted that members of the public will be able to use the service for free while trails are ongoing. He continued by saying that the Purple Line is expected to become fully integrated into the network on 12 April 2016, which is national Mother’s Day and also the birthday of the country’s revered Queen Sirikit.

The Purple Line follows a route between Tao Poon and Bang Yai. When it is fully operational fares will range between THB16 and THB40. They will go up in THB2 increments for each station travelled on the 23km route.

When the Purple Line opens it will be the fifth Bangkok rapid transit overground rail line. Others include the Savannabhumi Airport Rail Link. People looking to buy tickets for travel to other provinces in Thailand will find 12GO ASIA’s service cheap and convenient.
