New Bangkok Skytrain headed for Chao Phraya River west bank

The director Of Bangkok’s Transportation Division says the municipality will hold a public enquiry into the feasibility of building a Skytrain line on the west bank of the Chao Phraya River. Taweesak Lertprapan told reporters the Gold Line would be three kilometres long and link Thonburi Railway Station and the soon-to-open Icon Siam shopping and lifestyle mall.

The first phase of the BTS Skytrain line will also connect to Thaksin Hospital. The second phase of the project will add two more stations. Engineers say the construction cost of the line will be between THB2 and THB3 million and the projected number of users per day will be upwards of 45,000.

This proposed BTS Skytrain line was not a part of the original network and was only added in last July. The developers of the Icon Siam project say they will foot part of the costs of construction and infrastructure purchases for the service.

Icon Siam is being built on Charoen Nakhon Road and its developers say it will be the biggest residential and lifestyle complex in Thailand when it opens in 2017. If you are travelling to or from Bangkok, 12GO ASIA provides a convenient service for your bus or train reservations.
