Phuket Patong Carnival gets underway at the weekend

Sunday sees the start of the ever-popular annual carnival in Phuket Island’s resort town of Patong. Town mayor Chalermluck Kebsup says that to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the launch of the carnival it is joining forces with the Patong Seafood Festival and visitors will be able to enjoy premium entertainment along with exciting gastronomic experiences.

The mayor noted that the focal point of the festival would be three roads and these are Bangla Road, Soi Dr Wattana and Soi Praisanee. The entertainment area of the carnival will feature stand-up artistes, live musicians and dance performances.

Stalls and exhibitions on Bangla Road will trace Phuket’s heritage. Old photographs and colourful dress are integral parts of the pieces. The dining areas of the carnival are split up into local seafood delights, Asian cuisine and global tastes.

Patong Carnival runs from 1 to 3 November. It was originally launched to mark the onset of the peak tourism season and to provide visitors with insightful glimpses of Phuket’s rich culture and history.
