Vietnam cuts cost of tourist visas

Vietnam is further relaxing its visa requirements in an attempt to boost its flagging tourist industry. New regulations due to come into effect on 23 November 2015 will see the cost of a single-use tourist visa reduced from US$45 to US$25 as well as other visa-related incentives designed to encourage people to visit.

Multi-entry tourist visa with six months validity are being reduced in price from US$95 to US$50. Fees are also being cut for six-month, one-year, two-year and five-year visas. Another of the measures is the introduction of a US$5 fee for a visa that will enable international visitors to enter Vietnam, go to Cambodia or Laos and then re-enter Vietnam.

The spouses of Vietnamese nationals also benefit as they will be given visa-free entries from 15 November. On 1 July 2015, Vietnam waived visa requirements for nationals of countries such as the UK, France and Germany. This applies for 12 months after which passport-holders of these countries will once again have to apply for entry visas.

Vietnam also gave Belarus citizens the same deal, but this applies until 2020. Vietnam grants residents of countries like Norway, Japan and the ASEAN-bloc nations visa-free entry. The relaxing of visa fees in July followed a 13-month period in which the number of tourists coming to Vietnam dropped.
