Vietnam to open unique Vietnam War cave for tourism

A central Vietnamese province is preparing to open a unique cave and former hideout of Vietnam War soldiers for tourists. Nguyen Duc Chinh is the People’s Committee chairperson for Quang Tri and he says staff are drawing up a schedule which will see Brai Cave opened to the general public.

He told media reporters that proper plans needed to be drawn up to ensure the safety and wellbeing of visitors as well as to prevent any damage to the cave itself. There are groups of stalagmites and stalactites inside the cave which are fragile and could be easily broken off if visitors are allowed to walk too close to them.

Nguyen Duc Chinh says the provincial tourism department will consult foreign specialists on the best way of preserving Brai for posterity. The 800-metre-long cavern is about 120km from the town of Dong Ha and in the general direction of the national border with Laos.

Despite being used by guerrilla fighters from the 1960s to the end of the Vietnam War in 1975, Brai cave was only rediscovered three years ago. Quang Tri is 1,000kms north of Ho Chi Minh City. 12GO Asia is your reliable source of tickets for travel from Cambodia to Vietnam.
