Thailand scoops number one award as global spa destination

Thailand took one of the top awards at the introductory World Spa Awards ceremony recently held in Vietnam. The Southeast Asian nation scooped up the number one prize in the category for World's Best Spa Destination 2015.

The awards were staged by the prestigious World Travel Awards and are the first to recognise professionalism and diversity in one of the planet’s fastest growing leisure-travel fields. World Travel Awards was launched more than two decades ago and also organises similar ceremonies which recognise quality in the skiing and golfing arenas.

Thailand has a history dating back centuries in massages and therapeutic treatments. Nowadays, Thailand’s wellness options cover the whole gamut from THB100 an hour foot and body massages to detoxes and rejuvenating courses at spas which are as good as anything available anywhere in the world.

The InterContinental Sun Peninsula Resort in the Vietnamese seaside resort of Danang was the venue for the World Travel Spa Awards. National celebs Minh Ha and Anh Quan hosted the event which also featured entertainment themed on national culture and heritage.
