Thai tourism police release guide app

Thailand’s tourist police have launched an app giving cultural etiquette tips for international visitors as well as details about popular destinations in the country. The app is entitled the Thailand Tourist Trips and Tips AR Book and is available as a free download from both Google Play and the iOS App Store.

The Tourism Police unveiled the AR Code (Augmented Reality) programme at an official ceremony held at Bangkok’s Suvarnabhumi Airport on Monday. Tourist bureau police-commander Suprapone Arunsit said the app gives basic details about traditions in Thailand and how not to commit a social faux pas.

He noted it featured information about the dozen less well-known destinations currently being advertised in the ongoing Discover Thainess promotion. The commander finished off by saying the fact the app had the full backing of the Tourist Police would also instil a feeling of safety for visitors.

The app features 3D imagery. Text is available in English, Thai and Chinese. The app also holds the standard information that Tourist Police offices in the country distribute to visitors in paper format. Visitors with additional questions will still be able to call the tourism hotline on 1155. This operates from 08:00 to 20:00 daily.
