Vietnam to develop tourism facilities at Mt Hon Ba

Authorities in Vietnam’s Khanh Hoa Province say its flagship nature reserve and mountain peak will be developed in a bid to attract more tourists. A spokesperson told local media reporters that the project would see the nature reserve at Mt Hon Ba improved to cater to modern-day tourism and a cable-car built.

Khanh Hoa’s provincial governor has endorsed the construction of a six-kilometre-long cable-car line which will be built by France-based cable-transport company Pomagalski. This new system will provide easier access to the peak and the nature reserve.

A 470-acre swath of land surrounding the peak will be redesignated as a conserve to allow indigenous species of flora to flourish. The project is being managed by Hon Ba-Yersin Tourism group.

The body has predicted the infrastructure improvements will almost double the number of visitors annually from 800,000 to 1.5 million. The budget for the development has been set at US$15 million. Mt Hon Ba is 60kms from the perennially popular seaside resort of Nha Trang.
