The unidentified passenger got off at the station after that and told security guards that the assault and abuse was so vicious she really was afraid of losing her life. After the incident, the woman’s friend posted up an online appeal asking for help in identifying the assailant.
Police tracked down the man subsequently named as Lao citizen Weerapan Inthawong, 38, at Sutthisan MRT on Tuesday evening. He was identified as the person who had assaulted her by the train passenger. Inthawong claimed the woman had stepped on his foot and was the reason for the assault.
Several other victims of the person who has nicknamed himself Mafia Siam have since come forward and claimed he had assaulted them. One of the younger victims told police he was cracked over the head with a water bottle.
An online video purportedly shows Mafia Siam going mad in a hotel reception after he was asked to show his identity card. At the press conference held to announce the arrest one of his victims got her own back by slapping him around the head.
Police say they have charged Weerapan with assault and entering Thailand illegally. One officer noted the man was a scourge in the Siam Square area and famed for psychotic outbursts.

Police in Bangkok have arrested a Lao national for alleged assaults on Bangkok’s underground train system and at Siam Square. The arrest followed a complaint by a female passenger that she was smacked in the face and threatened with death last Friday while travelling on the subway.
