The museum is housed in a defunct Treasury Bureau print building located in the historic Rattanakosin Island zone of Bangkok. Its displays faithfully recreate scenes from artisans’ workshops, an apothecary, a schoolroom, food stores and tearooms.
The Pipit Banglamphu was set up to preserve these once common scenes for posterity. The complex compises two main buildings, one of which is a typical timber structure so common in the Thai capital 150 years ago. In keeping with modern requirements when the buildings were restored and equipped with the tools and equipment of yesteryear they were designed to facilitate the access of the elderly and disabled.
Pipit Banglamphu Museum is located on Phra Sumen Road and is almost adjacent to Phra Sumen Fort. The museum is also close to the Khao San Road backpacker’s enclave, Phra Athit Ferry Pier and the Thai National Museum.
