Khon Kaen Zoo welcomes new white wallaby joey

Khon Kaen Zoo has officially unveiled its newest inmate which is a white wallaby joey. Thanachon Kensingh, the zoo’s director, said the rare albino joey was born just after the new year but has only just started venturing out of his mother’s pouch.

He said the baby wallaby’s first public appearances come at an auspicious time for Thai people as this month saw the 83rd birthday of the nation’s beloved Queen Sirikit. The director said that the zoo had asked the general public to submit name suggestions for the baby wallaby.

He said there would be a prize of THB10,000 for the name chosen and the winner would be announced on national Father’s Day, 5 December 2015. The albino wallaby is the fifth one at Khon Kaen Zoo and joins its illustrious creatures among which are white tigers, lemurs, pygmy hippopotami and seals.

Khon Kaen Zoo is located beside Highway 2 and midway between Udon Thani and Khon Kaen. It opens every day from 08:00 and 16:00. 12GO ASIA sells tickets for travel on bus and train services from Bangkok to Khon Kaen and Udon Thani.
