Beach hopping on the Gulf of Thailand

The northern half of Thailand’s peninsula on the Gulf of Thailand coastline is home to an enticing collection of seaside resorts and beaches. The route from Phetchaburi down to Chumpon takes in Cha Am, Hua Hin, Khao Sam Roi Yot National Park, Prachuap Khiri Khan and Bang Saphan.

Both bus and train services connect Bangkok and Phetchaburi and all the other resorts on this side of the Thai peninsula. Many of these services go all the way to Hat Yai and the border with Malaysia. Phetchaburi is less than three hours from Bangkok

Buses for Phetchaburi and onwards leave from Bangkok’s Southern Bus Terminal and trains from the centrally located Hualamphong Railway Station. Buses are more frequent but there are at least 10 trains a day in each direction.

Trains go at least as far as Chumpon and are eminently convenient for those who wish to sample the individuality of each location on the coast. Arrival times coincide with departures for the same train the next day, or the day after that.
