Ngapali Beach Myanmar – Best Hotels for a Memorable Stay
Ngapali Beach is at once off the beaten track (as it takes a long time to travel here overland) but also quite a popular tourist destination in Myanmar. This means that there is a reasonable mix of accommodation options, although don’t expect to find a huge range of budget choices. If you have a larger budget, then you will find good mid-range and upscale options like resorts, or you can also opt for a beachside villa that is a good pick if you are travelling as part of a group or as a couple.
Budget
It’s fair to say that Myanmar, despite being one of the less affluent countries in Southeast Asia, is also not the cheapest when it comes to travel. As such, budget accommodation in Ngapali Beach is limited to a few picks and you won’t get much for your money.
One hostel choice in Ngapali Beach is Banyan Hostel 2 although you will still have to pay around USD20 for a bed in a dorm room. One of the good things about this hostel is that it is near to Thandwe Airport so if you are flying down from Yangon and just want a place for the night until you scout out some other options, then this can be a good spot.
A good tip to remember in Ngapali Beach is that a lot of the smaller hotels are not online. With this in mind, there is no way to book before you arrive, and you may get a better budget deal once you are in town and can check out the options in person. If you are visiting in high season however it is best to book accommodation in advance for at least one night to make sure that you have a roof over your head when you arrive.
Mid-Range
If you have a larger budget or you are travelling as part of a group or couple then it may be cheaper to rent a bungalow on the beach such as Laguna Lodge which has basic bungalows that start at around USD40 per night. You should note that this is also run as an eco-lodge and while electricity is provided there is an emphasis on saving energy and candles are used at night as the main source of light. Still, this can make your stay here feel rather romantic.
Going up a little in price, you will also find boutique hotels here such as the Yoma Cherry Lodge which has little bungalows for around USD90 per night that feature traditional Burmese thatched roofs. The whole lodge sits in a leafy garden and you will find large rooms with balconies. There is also a restaurant and bar area here too, but bear in mind that it gets pretty crowded in the high season so a reservation is highly recommended.
Around the same price is the Bayview Beach Resort which is a self-styled boutique hotel with a four star ranking that has bungalows that start at around USD100. Again, if you are travelling in a group then this may be better pick than individual beds in a hostel and the rooms are dotted around a large flower garden and some have sea views. There is also a Sunset Bar that serves up international and local fare and has a comprehensive wine list.
Top End
Ngapali Beach is also known for its resorts, which you won’t find all over Myanmar, so if you want to splurge then this is probably the place to do it.
One of the most popular options in the area is the Hilton Ngapali Resort and Spa which costs an eye-watering USD300 per night. For that however you can expect spacious rooms with private balconies, access to private lagoons, and a large infinity pool. There are also a range of bars and restaurants here which make for a pleasant stay if you are looking for a little luxury.
